1920's Art Deco Folding Purse Travel Watch - IN WORKING ORDER
This novelty timepiece from the 1920's/30's features a classic square dial with Arabic numerals and a dedicated subsidiary seconds dial at the 6 o'clock position. Making this piece even rarer is the fact that it is in working condition. When wound the mechanical movement springs to life and the small second hand ticks smoothly.
Housed in early moulded black plastic (appears to be Bakelite/Celluloid) over a solid brass metal frame. The case has vertical inlaid lines on the exterior and a chevron pattern hand engraved onto the inner watch bezel on both sides.
The case has a unique spring-folding design - pressing the button on the bottom allows the inner watch module to pop out and prop itself upright into the mini clock layout seen in the photos. Perfect for a desk or nightstand.
The hand-scratched matching assembly Roman numerals (XII) inside the case back and on the inner watch rim show the precision hand fitting of early 20th century watchmaking.
The watch is mechanically functional and the face is beautifully clear and unmarked. Cosmetically, the watch shows honest vintage character, quite consistent with it's 100 year age. There is some natural oxidation/patina to the brass, some fading on the exterior line detail decoration and a small chip in the black casing (see photos).
