A traditional Chinese Liuqing bamboo carving (Liuqing Zhuke / 留青竹刻) fashioned into a scholar's wrist rest (Bi Bi / 臂搁).
Craftsmanship & Inscription:
- Craft Technique: Liuqing (留青) translates to "retaining the green". The artisan meticulously carves the landscape into the razor-thin, pale outer layer (epidermis) of the bamboo. The surrounding green layer is scraped away to expose the darker bamboo inner wood underneath, creating a reverse cameo effect. As the object ages, the contrasting tones deepen beautifully.
- Calligraphy Inscription: The upper-left inscription reads "山青水秀" (Shān Qīng Shuǐ Xiù), meaning "The mountains are green and the waters are elegant," a classic poetic idiom celebrating a beautiful natural landscape.
- Dating: It features a cyclical date indicator reading "丁丑" (Dīngchǒu). Depending on the age of the piece, this corresponds to a year in the 60-year Chinese calendar cycle (e.g., 1997, 1937, or 1877
