An original felt insignia World War II Australian Army Ordnance Corps (AAOC)patch featuring a red central square on a dark blue square background denoting the AAOC within the second world war military framework. Soldiers wore these wool patches on the sleeves or shoulders of the uniform to identify their specific corps and unit affiliation.
Following research, this patch appears to be an original World War II period piece period. Several key structural elements support its authenticity, that being the back material which is exactly correct for Australian made military insignia of the 1940s. The stitching style, thread work, and the natural ageing with the loose, frayed threads on the edges and slight fibre press through the back match organic wear over many decades.
