Vintage Royal Doulton charcter jug depicting the character Simon the Cellarer.
Features a man with jovial, ruddy complexion, a marron hat and white ruff collar. The handle is shaped like a set of keys, symbolising the keys to his well-stocked cellar, as the character orginates from the 19th-century English folksong about a "thirsty old soul" who enjoyed his ale.
A popular collectible item released between 1939-1955. This vintage piece is hand-painted.
