SPLAYDS by McArthur Distributed by Stokes Vintage 18/8 Stainless Steel Set of 6 Mini Splayds in their Original Blue Velvet Box.
Splayds are a combination of fork, knife, and spoon in one utensil. They were invented by William McArthur in the 1940s in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The invention was supposedly inspired by seeing ladies struggle to eat at barbecues with standard cutlery, from plates on their laps. They were not mass marketed until 1962, when eating in front of the television had become commonplace.
They are made from 18/8 Stainless Steel. This type of steel is the most widely used material, has excellent corrosion resistance in mild environments, and has good weldability and mechanical properties.
This set is in good used condition for their age (were made in the 1960s).
