Tanja Public School Centenary 1846 - 1978 Booklet

Whilst this booklet is a highly niche piece of local Australian ephemera, it gives history tracking back to 1846 to cover the early European settlement, pioneer families, dairy farming, and the initial clearing of the Bega Valley prior to the form of establishment of a public school in 1878. Inside the 109 page document are archival photographs, early school rules and enrolment statistics, lists of headmasters, and family histories of the regional for South Coast community.

Interestingly the school made headlines for an unusual demographic anonymously at one point when it’s total student enrolment dropped to just 11 students, all of whom were boys. The school gained regional fame for its highly progressive, off grid eco-education model, running entirely on solar power and rainwater.
