The History of Sandford and Merton, by Thomas Day, part of The Youth Library of Wonder and Adventure Series.
This was a popular children’s book, first published between 1783 and 1789.  The book follows the development of two boys, Tommy Merton and Harry Sandford.
The preface in this book, written by W H Leeds, is dated 1851.  There is an achievement sticker on the inside front cover from St Marks, Old Street awarded to Robert Crome for regular attendance, dated Christmas 1883.
The preface page has come adrift and there is no title page or publisher page.  The red cloth cover with black lettering and a gilt illustration is quite badly damaged on the back cover.  All other pages appear to be firmly affixed to the spine.
