Ex library book, cloth hard back, no dust cover, first edition book published in 1939 right at the outbreak of the second world war. The author, Alfred Duff Cooper (1st Viscount Norwich) what a prominent British diplomat, politician, and author. He notably served as the first Lord of the admiralty under Neville Chamberlain but resigned in protest in 1938 over the Munich agreement being the policy of appeasement toward Hitler. This book published in late 1939, outlines the immediate political failures, military strategies, and events leading directly into the start of World War II. Because it was written in real time as the conflict began, it offers a distinct unfiltered contemporary window into British perspective before the full scale of the war unfolded.
The books condition is fair, showing clear signs of heavy institutional use, understandably for an ex library book. The spine has significant fading, darkening and surface abrasion, which is common for course cloth of this area.
