Vintage 1930s/40s Celluloid "Souvenir of Dungog" Matchbox Holder & Federal Wooden Matchbox
This wonderful collectable matchbox holder is a little piece of Australian memorabilia. It is a double-sided, black and white photographic souvenir of Dungog in New South Wales.
The front panel is a view of a local bridge, the back panel is a panoramic landscape view over the township, and the spine is inscribed "Souvenir of DUNGOG N.S.W." The whole thing is decorated with a black and white striped/sawtooth border.
The external celluloid graphic panels are in excellent vintage condition, while the inner sleeve shows age related oxidation and pitting of the tin but retains it's springy grip of the matchbox.
Importantly - the holder comes complete with a period correct, vintage Federal Safety Matches wooden matchbox (empty) which slides into the sleeve perfectly. The outer box features the iconic wooden construction and is paired with it's original cardboard slide drawer.
A fantastic complete display for collectors of Australiana.
