An antique or vintage claret jug (wine decanter), featuring a diamond/hobnail cut glass body combined with a silver-plated metal collar, hinged lid, and handle.
Key Characteristics:
- Design Period: Stylistically, these pieces typically date from the late Victorian or Edwardian eras (late 19th century to early 20th century). Many mid-to-late 20th-century reproductions in a similar classic British style also exist.
- Materials: The lower vessel is crafted from cut crystal or heavy pressed glass. The metallic top mount is commonly E.P. Zinc (Electroplated Nickel Silver / Zinc base metal) produced by English manufacturers.
- Function: It was traditionally used to serve claret (red Bordeaux wine) or water elegantly at a dining table
