This is an antique Art Deco silver-plated cocktail shaker pitcher. Popularized during the Prohibition era, these shaker pitchers were deliberately styled like traditional coffee pots or water jugs to discretely blend into home bars.
Key Characteristics:
- Design Features: It has a distinct tapered body, a footed pedestal base, a prominent side handle, and an elongated pouring spout. The small cap on the spout is secured by a delicate safety chain to prevent it from getting lost.
- Condition & Patina: The surface displays heavy tarnish and a multi-toned patina built up from age. Collectors often value this untouched original finish, though it can be buffed with standard silver polish if a mirror-like shine is preferred.
- The base is stamped with a large cursive script letter "R" followed by "EPNS", identifying it as an Australian-made cocktail shaker manufactured by Renown Silverware
- The Brand: Renown was a highly popular mid-20th-century Australian silver-plating firm. They primarily produced high-quality tableware, tea services, and barware out of Melbourne from the 1930s through the 1950s.
- The Metal: The "EPNS" stamp stands for Electroplated Nickel Silver. This means the shaker is crafted from a durable base alloy of copper, nickel, and zinc, which was then electronically coated in a layer of pure silver
