This authentic preowned World War II Australian Volunteer Defence Corps (VDC) cloth shoulder patch featuring the embroidered monogram VDC in black letters on a red circular disc back by khaki fabric was for a unit formed in July 1940 and modelled on the British Home Guard. The VDC was a part-time volunteer military force established to assist with homefront defence. Initially organised by the Returned and Services League (RSL) using WWI veterans, and letter brought under the Australian Commonwealth Military Forces (CMF) in May 1941.
Note that the slight fraying along the edges of the khaki backing canvas and the loose threads at the top suggested it was genuinely removed from a veterans uniform jacket or shirt.
