A RARE piece of Australian and British Royal History!
This is a beautiful and highly collectible vintage porcelain Trio (Cup, Saucer, and Side Plate) made by Royal Winton Grimwades in England. It was specifically produced to commemorate the planned 1949 Royal Visit of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth (The Queen Mother) to Australia.
Historical Significance:
The visit was unfortunately cancelled due to the King’s ill health, making the items produced prior to the cancellation and bearing the "1949" inscription much rarer and more sought-after than the later 1954 memorabilia. This set tells a unique story of a Royal tour that never was.
Key Features:
• Manufacturer: Royal Winton, Grimwades, England.
• Pattern: Commemorative Royal Visit.
• Design: Features highly detailed portraits of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, surrounded by a delicate border of pink roses, green foliage, and generous gold gilding.
• Condition: Excellent vintage condition with minimal wear commensurate with age. No chips, cracks, or crazing noted. The gilt remains largely intact.
Collectibility:
As a genuine piece of pre-WWII era British pottery from a reputable maker, and with its specific historical dating, this trio is a must-have for any collector of Royal Commemorative Ware or Australian Historical Memorabilia. Don't miss the opportunity to own this piece of unique, cancelled history!
