We are proud to launch Salvos Stores Textile Recovery Facility, Australia’s first automated textile sorting and decommissioning facility in QLD. Using AI and robotics to ensure sellable items find a second life in-store and that complex textiles are transformed into sorted, “ready-to-recycle” feedstocks.
On average, we know that Australians buy 55 items of clothing each year; as a nation, we import and manufacture more than 1.55 billion units annually, much of it from nondurable, non-sustainable materials; and an estimated 200,000 tonnes of clothing goes to landfill each year.
Salvos Stores plays a vital role in tackling that challenge, and our Textile Recovery Facility is the next leap in circular economy innovation.
"At full pace, we will process around five thousand tonnes of textiles per year. This is how we move from flowcharts to factory floors, partnering with established and emerging textile processors, locally and globally, to unlock new markets and solutions" says Nic Baldwin, Head of Salvos Stores.
Together with brands and organisations across Australia, we can make sure textiles come full circle, returning value to businesses, communities, and the planet.
